Sanjiv Gajiwala, White Claw’s senior vice president of marketing, confirmed the adult beverage’s widespread popularity had indeed led to a nationwide shortage of stock. Gajiwala told CNN Business the company was steadily working to rectify the situation.
“We are working around the clock to increase supply given the rapid growth in consumer demand,” Gajiwala said in a statement on Friday. “White Claw has accelerated faster than anyone could have predicted.”
Gajiwala couldn’t specify when consumers could expect to see a boxes of White Claw’s mélange of flavors filling up store shelves again but noted the hard seltzer producer was “allocating product to our distributor partners to keep all markets in stock the best we can and will continue to do so until we get back to our normal safety stock position.”
White Claw’s scarcity isn’t all that surprising. Although it’s been around since 2016, the hard seltzers saw a particularly epic surge in sales this summer. The beverage saw sales north of $327 million in July, up 283 percent compared to the same time period last year, according to a Nielsen report. Raking in 55 percent of sales within the hard seltzer category, White Claw’s popularity among drinkers is the primary reason why the fizzy drink has become quite the fad in the U.S.
White Claw’s depleting availability may be disheartening for some fans of the drink, but it marks a prime opportunity to get your hard seltzer fix by trying one of the many other emerging low-calorie alcohol alternatives.
