Dormer’s representatives confirmed as much in a statement to Screen Rant. The rumors started because of social media posts by a crew member for The Witcher TV series that confirmed Dormer was at least visiting the show’s shooting locations. Dormer had also been seen riding horses in Surrey with an unnamed Witcher crew member, causing further speculation that she may be joining the cast for The Witcher season 2.

While Dormer isn’t joining the cast of The Witcher season 2, that doesn’t meant the show won’t have some Game of Thrones alum on the cast. The Witcher season 1 featured Yoren actor Francis Magee, and season 2 is set to include Tormund Giantsbane actor Kristofer Hivju as Nivellen. It’s possible that even more former Game of Thrones stars will join the cast in future seasons of the show as well, though that remains to be seen.

The Witcher Netflix series has connections to Game of Thrones besides just having some of the same actors. Vladimir Furdik, who portrayed the villainous Night King in Game of Thrones, actually works behind-the-scenes on The Witcher, serving as a choreographer for some of the show’s critically-acclaimed fight scenes.

With The Witcher coming out just after the end of Game of Thrones and both being dark fantasy shows, it’s inevitable that the two will be compared. However, whereas the first season of Game of Thrones received widespread critical acclaim, the same can’t be said for The Witcher season 1. In fact, The Witcher season 1 reviews were relatively mixed, with one of the main complaints being about the confusing timeline. The Witcher season 1 was still a hit with viewers and one of Netflix’s most-watched shows of 2019, but it will be interesting to see if the second season earns stronger reviews.

The Witcher season 2 doesn’t premiere until 2021, so fans have about a year or so to wait before they will find out if it lives up to expectations or not.

The Witcher is available to stream now, exclusively on Netflix.
