Gwent proved to be so popular that CD Projekt Red made an online card game of the same name back in 2018. Gwent: The Witcher Card Game is more complex than the minigame of The Witcher 3, as the latter could be cheesed fairly easily by spamming Spy cards that could fill one player’s hand at the sacrifice of some power. The standalone game still proves to be popular, with a new expansion releasing for Gwent earlier this year.

Even with the standalone Gwent game offering players a more competitive card-based experience, there’s still a lot of nostalgia for the minigame of The Witcher 3. One Reddit user, known as MrTenticlez, managed to purchase their own version of a Gwent board. There are three rows on each side of the board, for a player’s melee, ranged, and siege troops respectively. There are also slots for the player to put their deck, including troops that have been discarded or used in a previous round.
MrTenticlez completed the impressive look of their Gwent boards with the official, physical cards that CD Projekt Red have released in order to promote the card game. Alongside the officially created cards, fans have also made their own impressive versions of Gwent cards. Back in 2021, a fan showed off their recreation of the Geralt of Rivia legendary Gwent card, giving the iconic Witcher a unique look.
While Gwent has only appeared in one mainline Witcher title, it has clearly made its mark on the franchise and its fanbase. Other minigames were available in The Witcher and The Witcher 2, but many prefer the simplistic card game compared to its competitors. Some are even hoping that Gwent can make a return in the upcoming remake of the original Witcher game. Even if the minigame doesn’t appear again for some time, those who want to carry some of their favorite Witcher characters in card form can always turn to Gwent: The Witcher Card Game.
The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt is available now for the PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox. The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions are set to launch on December 14, 2022.
