Praise and criticism have both been directed at The Witcher 3 in the weeks since its release, and both are completely justified. The game’s great, albeit flawed in some aspects, and these have been addressed in reviews, and further highlighted by the various patches rolled out for it. Yet, despite the flaws with the game (even the ones that could halt progress completely) people continue to play the game and enjoy their time with it, if only because it’s such an ambitious and massive world.
And more of Geralt’s final ride is on the way, in the form of two expansion packs, which make a solid argument in favor of picking up the game now, as well as the accompanying Expansion Pass. Never mind all the free DLC CD Projekt RED is slowly dealing out.
All of the above are probably the leading factors that propelled the RPG into the top spot on the PS4’s sales chart but, of course, we have no idea how many copies of the game were actually bought, or, in this case, downloaded.
Other familiar games, and a couple of surprises, round out the top 5, including (in order) Mortal Kombat X, The Wolf Among Us, Trials Fusion, and Wolfenstein: The Old Blood. Talk about a diverse list of games.
In other positive news to go along with The Witcher 3’s top spot, the latest patch, Patch 1.04, is out now and making its way to PS4 versions of the game. As discussed on NeoGAF, the 500 MB update will hopefully take care of the recent reports of small, unreadable text, game crashes, and various issues people were running into with certain quests.
This isn’t the last patch CD Projekt has planned for console versions of the game, though, as the PC just received Patch 1.05. Presumably, this will eventually come to the Xbox One and PS4.
How do you feel about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt being the best-selling PS4 game in May? Do you feel safer playing it now, post patch installation?
