Although the rumor turned out to be false, CD Projekt Red has set a convincing precedent for Enhanced Edition versions of their RPGs that allowed it to spread in the first place. The developer released Enhanced Edition versions for both The Witcher and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, so it wasn’t too much of a stretch to expect the same treatment for one of the best RPGs of all-time. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has appeared on virtually every Top 10 Games list for 2015 and has elicited the kind of strong fan response and loyalty that is usually more common in Japanese RPG titles.

Given the year of dominance CD Projekt Red’s latest game has enjoyed, it will be surprising if an Enhanced Edition isn’t released eventually, although hoping for one in the near future might be too optimistic. In the meantime, The Witcher 3 will be looking to make it a clean sweep of the major video game award shows, as it finds itself nominated for GDC Game of the Year at the 16th annual Game Developer Choice Awards alongside another massive RPG release in Bethesda’s Fallout 4.

One of the reasons The Witcher 3 has been successful enough to garner so many award nominations is CD Projekt Red’s dedication to the game from both a developer and fan standpoint. The studio patched problems and provided free content early after the game’s release, while its keen eye for fan discussion and rumors has made it very good at both pleasing its Witcher community while also preventing any harmful or disappointing rumors from getting out of hand. With CD Projekt Red almost entirely focused on Cyberpunk 2077’s development, it’s impressive their team managed to catch the listing error so quickly, but not altogether surprising.

Luckily for those disappointed there isn’t a Witcher 3: Enhanced Edition on the horizon, there is still the upcoming release of The Witcher 3’s second expansion, Blood & Wine, to enjoy more of Geralt’s engrossing adventures. That DLC is set to arrive some time in the first half of 2016, so the wait won’t be too much longer.

Do you think there’s going to a Witcher 3: Enhanced Edition eventually? Are you glad the rumor was squelched before too many fans could get their hopes up? Let us know in the comments below.
