Mateusz Kanik had the following to say about the new difficulty level when speaking to Eurogamer:

Further cementing the notion that their Insane difficulty will be trouble for gamers willing to take the challenge, CD Projekt Red has made it clear they were heavily inspired by a title that led to many broken controllers and crying gamers last year, Demon’s Souls. You may want to run through the title once before attempting Insane mode. If you’d like to know a little bit more about the game, why not read Part 1 and Part 2 of our interview with a couple of the developers?

The Witcher 2 still has quite a long road ahead of it until release, so it’s nice to see the team letting loose big surprises like this as we near the release date. A few weeks ago we even saw some extended gameplay sequences to whet our appetite for the upcoming non-linear RPG. With this and the new Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim both coming out next year, it’ll be a great year for enormous RPGs.

Do you plan on trying out the Insane difficulty, or would you rather keep your sanity while playing The Witcher 2? Sound off in the comments to let us know.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings will be released on May 17, 2011.
