The uncanny valley was first identified by Japanese roboticist Masahiro Mori in 1970 while exploring human responses to machines made in their image. The concept has its roots in psychology and fiction, as the English translation ties it inadvertently to Ernst Jentsch’s concept of the “uncanny,” a state of logical uncertainty. Funnily enough, Freud’s expansion of the concept in 1919 used the example of a character in a story whose humanity is left ambiguous....

In the cold blackness of early Saturday morning, Taliban fighters received the first of what could turn into many nighttime visits from the Rangers. Some 100 troops parachuted into an airfield on the outskirts of Kandahar, the Taliban stronghold in southern Afghanistan, and opened fire. The penultimate episode of The Witcher’s first season finally brings everyone together in roughly the same timeline. Even so, at least the overarching plot in The Witcher is the focal point again and it’s clearer how the three main characters’ stories are all connected to each other....

The World Ends With You: The Animation was announced in July 2020 with a collaborative tie-in to Anime Expo Lite, where it was revealed. The anime is being produced by DOMERICA, the animation studio behind the CG in Evangelion 3.0: You Can (Not) Redo, and Shin-Ei Animation, the studio behind the Doraemon and Crayon Shin-chan franchises.
